This “dagger” is modeled after the Lionheart Executioner weapon from the online game World of Warcraft. Video game weapons tend to be grossly oversized for the characters who carry them, making it nearly impossible for someone to wield such a big weapon in real life. So this replica is a scaled-down model, since the weapon in the game is a sword and this item is described as a dagger. An adult can fit only a single hand on the handle, though a small child might be able to grasp it with both hands. I don’t really see the logic here, since plastic is obviously lighter than metal. So how could making a Lionheart Executioner more to scale with the in-game one be too much of a problem? Would spending the extra bit cash on a little more plastic to make a bigger Lionheart Executioner cut into their profits that much?

It is made from a relatively sturdy grey plastic, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend trying to actually hack and slash at anything with much force or risk damaging it (hacking and slashing at anyone or anything using any object is generally frowned upon in normal society anyway). It has been painted with shades of mustard/gold, red, and a lighter gray, but the paint chips off very easily. I don’t know whether it’s the plastic they used or the paint, but I’ve seen other costume accessories in party shops that cost less than the Lionheart Executioner and they don’t have the paint coming off them like this one (and they were bigger in size too). The one I received already had most of the red paint on the heart design chipped off on one side, and there are patches of gray paint missing in a few areas of the blade, making the darker gray plastic underneath visible. While it does make the blade look somewhat aged and adds a little bit of autheticity to the product, the chipped-off red paint on the heart is disappointing. I suppose someone with acryllic paint at home can fix this by themselves, but should we really have to? Maybe this is a flaw that will be fixed with future versions of this product, but since Rubies is the company that makes them, I won’t be holding my breath.

The edges of the blade portion have jagged flecks of plastic on them too, as if they weren’t properly cut from the molds they were made from. Like the title states, this is “Rubies quality” work, and they’re not known for their painstakingly immaculate craftsmanship. They’re known for mediocre, barely serviceable costumes and accessories made on the cheap. In all, it’s a decent replica, though a version slightly larger with a better paint job would have been preferred. I recommend actually going to a costume shop so you can pick the least-flawed version rather than ordering it online and being disappointed when you open up the box.

Bought 2 of these as a stocking stuffer for my (30 yr old!) boyfriend, they were a hit. the swords are sized for adults, thin plastic, lightweight and apherently a lot of fun. Great for warcraft fans of any age! He ended up hanging them in his office in an X pattern on the wall above his computer and takes them down to play with the nefew when he visits, they have an astounding amount of fun with these things, such a good buy.
