How to Heal in World of Warcraft

Want to learn how to heal in World of Warcraft? Here are a few tips to get you started.

For these examples I am going to be using a Priest, as it’s the vanilla healing class.  Most other classes can do what a priest can do.

1) Pre-healing saves your tank’s life.

If you don’t know what pre-healing is, it’s basically just spamming heals and (sometimes) cancelling them before they land on your target.  What this does is it lets you heal any sudden damage extremely quickly.  If you were just reactive healing, which is healing only when you see damage on your target, you would heal the damage way later than if you were pre-healing. You should be using this technique as much as you can, especially on boss fights where burst damage is frequent.

2) Know your spells

You need to know your class and understand the specialization that you choose. If you’re a holy priest then knowing when to use Guardian Spirit is detrimental, as well as knowing what kind of statistics you would like to build up. If you’re holy then circle of healing is an amazing ability that needs to be used whenever you can. If you’re discipline use pain suppression, penance, and power infusion when needed as well. These are the simple things that people don’t do. They don’t use their “secret weapons” that come with their spec.

3) Know the Boss Fights

If you don’t know the boss fights then you are going to be a terrible healer. If you don’t know that you have to dispel the Fusion Punch off of the Iron Council in Ulduar, you’re going to be in trouble. If you don’t know that you have to keep over-healing on Kologarn, you’re going to have even more problems. These are the simple things that make you a very good healer in Wow

Thanks for reading, go practice your pre-heals and get to know all the fights and you’ll be awesome!
