World of Warcraft – 5 No-Nonsense Tips to Better Groups
Group participation is quite different from adventuring solo. If you cannot function in a group environment in World of Warcraft you will never see end game content or get your hands on the best equipment.
The most important aspect of successful grouping in World of Warcraft is effective communication. It is the Group Leader’s responsibility to communicate prospective group members exactly what is planned and what is expected of them.
Here are 5 tips to improve your group experience.
1.) Expectations
Each and every prospective member should know exactly what the group will be doing. The group leader should relate this in a whisper before inviting a new member.
2.) Loot Rules
Understand the loot rules that the group is going to abide by. This can be a very important thing to know before joining a group. There is nothing worse than adventuring to a certain zone to kill a certain boss that drops an item you want and moments before you kill the boss you find out that the group leader started the group so they could get the item. If you had known this up front it would have allowed you to decide if you really wanted to go with the group.
3.) Understand what the Icons mean
In World of Warcraft there is a system that allows a group leader to place various icons over the head of the mobs that are to be killed. Make that you understand the order in which you will be killing the mobs. Will it be star, triangle, square, etc. or some other combination?
Understand which icon you are responsible for. If you are a hunter and the group leader states that the square is the mob he wants you to trap be sure that you trap that mob. It is your responsibility to know what the icons mean. If you do not, ask the group leader to clarify it.
4.) Know Your Role
This is usually fairly straight forward for some classes. The Warrior is the tank, Priests heal, etc. Though for some classes it is not so clear. The Shaman and Paladin for instance can be DPS, Off Tank, or Healer. Be sure that you understand the role that is required of you.
5.) Communication Effective communication is the basis for every successful group. Call out adds, crowd control breaks, low mana, need healing, etc. Communication will go a very long way toward having a fun and profitable experience.
With the advent of the in game voice chat system it is now much easier to communicate. It has taken away the need for communication macros or frantic typing.
While these 5 tips are not an exhaustive list of what can be done to ensure an enjoyable group, they are the basis that any group should be built upon.
