With the dawn of the information technology age many things have changed in our everyday lives. The advancement of the computer age has changed many things even the way we play games. For many years now E-sports have been growing in popularity. Quake was (and still is) very popular as an E-sport as was Counter-Strike. Many teams would fight against each other in tournaments for cash prizes.
Professional E-sports competitors can earn very large amounts of money – sometimes a 6 figure income. It should therefore not be surprising to you that E-sports and World of Warcraft were to form a glorious, and very lucrative, union. With millions of players and an established combat gameplay it seemed strange that the two had never been twined from the very start.
Although WoW has always involved battle it wasn’t until the first expansion pack was released were players able to battle one and other in the Arenas.
The Arena was designed to accommodate groups of players who wanted to fight in a team. Players could form groups of 2, 3 or 5 players. This part of the game quickly became highly popular and the intricate rating system that was incorporated into this form of PvP made it extremely competitive and rewarding for players.
Thousands of teams were created and battles between teams raged for days on end as they fought to gain a top 10 ranking in the online leagues.
With the rising popularity of the Arenas showing no sign of slowing down Blizzard decided to launch its first tournament with a very nice $ 10,000 winning prize. This started a frenzy of activity in the Arenas and soon thousands of teams were battling for the top spots.
For years prior to this World of Warcraft PvP expansion there were E-sport sponsors of other online games and it was no surprise that Warcraft caught their attention.
WSVG (World Series of Video Games), one of the top E-sport tournament companies signed a deal with Blizzard to host 3-player-team tournaments. The new three player tournament also carried a top prize of $ 10,000 and created just as much buzz and excitement as the original.
These three player team tournaments are very exciting to watch and seem to be the most popular of all tournaments. CBS signed a deal with Blizzard to televise Wow tournaments. With CBS onboard with Blizzard to televise its five player tournaments CGS signed a deal to televise the 2 player battles.
With the PvP Arena prizes now dwarfing almost all other E-sports, many online E-sport players are migrating to World of Warcraft making it even more popular.Do you want to astound your group members by levelling up to 80 in just a few days?
