World of Warcraft – How to Fish your Way to Riches (1 of 3)
Most people in World of Warcraft look at fishing as a waste of time. They would rather spend time complaining about the gold they do not have. Smart players think of fishing as an aquatic gold mine.
Unlike mining or herbalism, fishing at low skill is not a great money maker. The thing about fishing is that it can be leveled much quicker than any other gathering skill. To level mining and herbalism you must spend time running around sometimes dangerous zones searching out nodes and plants. Fishing on the other hand can be leveled anywhere there is water deep enough to cast your bobber in.
Leveling your fishing skill is different from other trade skills. Leveling other trade skills is determined by the difficulty of the node, product, or item you care gathering or creating. Leveling fishing skill is determined by the number of successful casts. At low skill you will get an increase with each cast and it gets progressively tougher. Above 350 fishing skill it may take as many as 15 to 20 successful catches to gain 1 point, but you do not have to wander around looking for more fish. In fact since skill progression is based on successful catches you can level from 1 to 375 in fishing and never leave your home area.
Low level fishing will not earn you mounds of gold but it will let you level your cooking skill. If you are serious about putting mounds of gold in the bank you should be leveling cooking as well.
